A Quiet Quest Gaming in a Deaf World
Questions of my Presentation Pitch
What went well about the presentation?
I felt confident during my Presentation Pitch, I think my signing was good and that the pitch went well. I love video gaming and so already had a lot of knowledge about the topic but also the research was fun because I'm passionate about the subject. I learned lots through my Presentation Pitch work process and I really enjoyed creating my second task.
What could have been improved if you attempted the pitch again?
I think I need to polish my English writing because I've wrote in my English ideas about deaf video gaming experience and the right grammar order.
Was there anything that was cut from pitch before you presented it?
I didn't cut anything from my presentation, I think that the facts and purpose as well as the research done was all necessary information. The presentation was about 10 minutes overall.
How are you taking on the feedback/improvements that was given to you person forward to develop your documentary idea even further?
Paul gave me some good feedback on how to develop my documentary like using the Sound of Metal film as part of my research into the deaf experience.
Sound of Metal

Sound of Metal is about a heavy punk drummer named Reuben, he begins to lose his hearing after many years surrounded by loud music and screaming fans. He visits the doctor who tells him that his hearing is deteriorating rapidly and cannot be cured. His only hope to hear again would be with cochlear implants which would cost a lot of money in America.
He goes to live in a deaf community where he has to come to terms with his new life and new reality, he has to learn how to live in silence and understand how to communicate again. It is a hard journey for Ruben but he begins to engage with people in the community and learn American Sign Language.
He begins to live well in his whole life, giving up drugs and controlling his emotions as well as learning to communicate and making friends teaching the children drumming. It is a film the has many emotional scenes and shows him making good decisions to sell his RV and get cochlear implants, his choices are better and he finishes hearing again.
I thought this was an extraordinary film with great actors and feels like a real story with real struggles that deaf people face all the time. I will look at exploring the real side of deaf experience in gaming so I can ask questions about the real experiences of gaming and how important sound is.
