Film/Sound Production

For filming I used lighting from my own filming kit, this meant that with all of my shots there was a good standard of lighting. It was hard to do this sometimes in a house as there's not always space and angles to make the shots and the lights. This was more difficult with the interview with James as it was the only interview I did in person. I arranged 2 different camera angles to give variety, one focused more on James' face and one focused on my face. If I had the room, I would have had some behind the shoulder angles so that I could better capture the game play with James but this was not possible in my house.
Due to Coronavirus restrictions, the set up of the interviews were over Wifi and filmed using OBS, and phone cameras. This meant that the sound quality was not always brilliant. I chose to use some game clips in the documentary to create the right theme and make the genre of the documentary clear.
I had to cut down some of the speech in the interviews to make sure it fit I also switched between the sound from the camera phone footage and the sound from OBS depending on which was better. I could have asked all the participants over Wifi to capture their own OBS on their own laptops and send to me but this would have been difficult and the quality of the picture would not have improved as OBS image quality is quite blurry and out of focus.
Filming was not very long, about half an hour per interview but to get all the people together meant that I needed to have organisation and appointments with many people. It took me 3 weeks to get all three of the interviews done. I arranged them mostly by email as it is hard for me to make a phone call. I arranged for them to fill out the permission forms and sent through the questions before the interviews happened so they could prepare answers.
